About Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a gentle body oriented approach to bringing inner strength and resilience to your every day life

This works through releasing trauma from the nervous system. SE does not require the traumatised person to re-tell or re-live the traumatic event. Instead, it offers the opportunity to engage, complete and resolve in a slow and supported way the body’s instinctual fight, flight, freeze, and collapse responses.

Individuals experiencing the feeling of being stuck in polarised emotions can then relax into a growing sense of peace and safety.

Symptoms associated with being “Stuck on ON” can include:

  • anxiety
  • panic
  • hyperactivity
  • exaggerated startle
  • inability to relax
  • restlessness and sleeplessness
  • hyper-vigilance
  • digestive problems
  • emotional flooding
  • chronic pain
  • hostility / rage

Symptoms associated with being “Stuck on OFF” can include:

  • depression
  • feeling flat
  • lethargy
  • chronic fatigue
  • disorientation
  • disconnection
  • dissociation
  • complex syndromes
  • pain
  • low blood pressure
  • poor digestion

Through SE the types of results that clients can achieve include:

  • Those stuck in depression gradually find their feelings of hopelessness and numbness transformed into empowerment, triumph, and mastery.
  • Those stuck in anger begin to feel safe to express their feelings in a manageable way and experience empowerment, resolution and validation. Experiencing a true safety within them selves.
  • SE  expands on and positively reinforces bodily experiences that outshine those of fear and helplessness.

This resets the nervous system, restores inner balance, enhances resilience to stress, and increases people’s vitality, equanimity, and capacity to actively engage in life.
